Strobe Talbott, President of the Brookings Institution

Nelson Strobridge "Strobe" Talbott III is a journalist, political scientist, and diplomat, and president of the Brookings Institution. Talbott entered government after twenty-one years with Time magazine, where he worked as reporter, Washington bureau chief, editor-at-large, and foreign affairs columnist.

Talbott has served in the State Department, first as Ambassador-at-large and special advisor to the Secretary of State for the new independent states of the former Soviet Union, then as deputy secretary of state.

His books include: The Russia Hand, The Master of the Game, and Reagan and Gorbachev.
