Atterbury housed more than 7,200 evacuees that have found permanent homes in 45 different states.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said it is working to connect roughly 700 Afghan refugees at Camp Atterbury with jobs in the state and employers are eager to hire them.

Soldiers from the Indiana National Guard collected and delivered the coats Friday from an armory designated as a collection site for donations to Operation Allies Welcome.

Additional evacuees are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, although it’s unclear how many, said Mark Howell, regional spokesman for the federal Transportation Security Administration overseeing Operation Allies Welcome.

One hundred positions are open with weekly salaries ranging from $1,000 to $3,500 at Camp Atterbury for dining operation jobs.
