Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, and two former governors were in attendance at the Connecting the Crossroads event along with INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith to cut the ribbon on the highway.

The speed limit on the stretch of highway between mile marker 112 and 122 will increase from 55 miles per hour to 65 mph.

The closures will be in northern Monroe County on Jan. 17, between mile markers 128 and 130, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Edna Overman, 88 of Springfield, Ind., broadsided a car which was crossing 231 to get back onto the interstate ramp. Overman was transported to Bloomington Hospital and pronounced dead.
