The new asphalt trail runs nearly a mile along the White River near Spencer.

Fallen trees and debris on the Peninsula Trail in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness and the Pate Hollow Trail forced closure.

The Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday it would reopen trails 2 and 3, both of which lie south of the creek and the main disturbance area.

The contract with Monroe, LLC, is just one step in the 17th Street multiuse path project, which will ultimately stretch from Grant to Monroe streets.
