Leaders in Indiana are working toward approval for Pell funding, believing the move will benefit those in and out of prisons.

A new prison will replace the current Westville and Michigan City prisons, making it the larger in the state.

Indiana State Police are pursuing a criminal investigation after an inmate died at the Westville Correctional Facility.

The new Westville Correctional Facility in LaPorte County, when finished, will replace the existing facility with that name and the nearby Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

Thursday that the 1.4 million-square-foot new prison pegged to cost $1.2 billion and house up to 4,200 male inmates will provide “a modern and efficient space” for both inmates and more than 900 Indiana Department of Correction staff working there.
