Part of the 10 th Street Crosstown shopping center in Bloomington is no longer standing.

The east side building, which housed businesses like Soma and 10th Street Market, is undergoing demolition as part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment project.

The redeveloped 10 th street plaza will eventually include two, three story buildings, which will have retail on the first floors and Indiana University offices on top.

Developers will complete the project in two phases, starting with the east side building. It’s expected to be complete in the summer.

Construction on the west side of the center will start after that. Businesses currently in the west side building, including Lennie’s and Red Mango, will be able to move to the redeveloped east side complex once it’s complete.

Officials leading the project have said the center desperately needs the upgrade. Businesses were asked to move from the east side building several months ago.
