President Donald Trump's pick for health secretary gets his first Senate confirmation hearing tomorrow. Democrats plan to question Alex Azar about high drug prices and his connections to the pharmaceutical industry.
Azar is a former executive with Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly.
Azar has solid conservative credentials, serving in the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush.
Democrats who have worked with him in Washington and back home in Indiana say he has a reputation as a listener and problem solver.
Azar's nomination for HHS Secretary follows the ascendance of Seema Verma, who currently leads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and former State Health Commissioner Jerome Adams, who became Surgeon General this summer.
