Terre Haute Forming Advisory Committee To Address Parking Concerns

The city of Terre Haute is creating an advisory committee to address parking concerns in the city's downtown area.

Mayor Duke Bennett says the city is looking at Bloomington and its decision to implement parking meters as a model for the future. But he also says what they decide on could be different depending on what Terre Haute needs.

"You just don't know if it's going to make sense or not," Bennett says. "We used to have parking meters long ago, took them out, and then we're now just going to see if it makes sense to even do that."

He says the city is seeking input on how to move forward from a variety of sources, and the advisory committee will reflect that.

"It'll be a combination of business owners, people who frequent the downtown area, students, ISU administrators," Bennett says. "It's not going to be a big group; it'll be enough that we can get a lot of different viewpoints and input before we make any decisions."

The advisory committee has not yet been completely selected, but Bennett says the group could begin meeting as early as December.
