Proposed Changes To Bloomington Bus System Would Shorten Service Times, Reduce Routes

Proposed changes to Bloomington city bus service would reduce evening operating hours, according to a public input survey about the system’s redesign.

Final recommendations for changes to the Bloomington Transit bus system propose reducing the number of routes from 14 to 12.

The proposed Route 1 would replace the existing Route 1 North and eliminate its service to the Indiana University campus. It would run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on regular service weekdays, while the existing Route 1 North doesn’t end service until 11:35 p.m. on weekdays.

The same is true for proposed changes to several other existing routes, including Route 4 West, Route 4 South and Route 5.

Additionally, according to the survey, Route 8 Local would be eliminated and portions of its old route would be covered by the proposed Route 90 and Route 5.

Bloomington residents can find the survey here.

The Bloomington Public Transportation Corp. Board will make a final decision concerning route changes early next year and will implement those changes the following fall.
