Monday’s Owen County Commissioners meeting has been moved to 6 p.m. at the Owen County Courthouse.
The Nov. 4 meeting was originally scheduled for 9 a.m. at the county Emergency Management Agency building, but some residents complained to the state fire marshal because of the room's limited space.
The fire marshal determined the commissioners could not hold the meeting there because there is only one exit.
Spencer Downtown Event Coalition Spokesperson Jonathan Balash says he is happy with the changes because Owen County Commissioners President Jeff Brothers did not allow for public comment at the last commissioners meeting, and instead set aside time at the one on the morning of Nov. 4.
"It should allow for more people to be at the commissioners meeting," Balash says. "Evening meetings have always been easier for the public to attend. The lobby of the courthouse is larger than both of the locations where meetings have taken place. Since those meetings have had half of the attendees outside of the room, we should see greater inclusion at Monday's meeting."
Owen County officials did not respond in time for comment.
