Paoli School Board Members To Choose Between Pay or Insurance

Paoli school board members are faced with a decision – a $2,000 annual stipend or insurance benefits through the school corporation.

It's in response to a district wide effort to reduce costs. Board members have until Jan. 1 to make their selections.

The district's Interim superintendent Gerald Jackson says board members have agreed to make the sacrifice in order to cut back on expenses.

"I'm saving money all the time right now, if you can understanding what I'm saying," Jackson says. "We are not spending money on anything except what we necessarily have to have."

Jackson says the district is looking to make cuts in spring 2018 and anticipates letting go around nine employees.

Last month four teachers accepted a buyout to help ease the district's budget shortfall.
