Vigo Co. School Admin. Franklin Fennell Guilty On All Counts

A former Vigo County school district administrator has been convicted in a multi-year kickback scheme that federal authorities say cost the district more than $100,000.

A federal jury in Indianapolis found Franklin Fennell guilty Wednesday night on all counts. He was convicted of nine counts of wire fraud, one count of theft and two counts of lying to federal investigators.

Fennell oversaw the district's facilities and transportation support.

Prosecutors have said they believe Fennell is eligible for 30 to 37 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. A date for sentencing wasn't immediately set.

In September, former sheriff's deputy and school security liasion Frank Shahadey pleaded guilty in the case. He is serving a 16 month sentence. Shahadey also must spend two years on supervised release.
