Eskenazi Museum Of Art To Reopen This Week

Starting Aug. 27, galleries will be open with revised hours.

The Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art will be reopening its doors this Thursday after a three-year renovation. The $30 million makeover includes multiple new exhibits and programs as well as a few changes to the museum architecture.

Wilma E. Kelley Director David Brenneman believes the new renovation will change the way patrons interact with the museum.

“We have to rethink what we do and how we do it and we have to rethink the way that we shape our galleries, the experiences you can have in our gallery," he says. "We don’t really want anymore for you to feel like you are constrained but that you have choices.”

One of the larger projects included in the renovation is the rollout of an art therapy program. It’s the first of its kind in a university museum setting and is meant to help students find their voice through the discussion of contemporary and modern art.

The grand reopening goes from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, but the celebration will continue through the weekend.
