A vehicle that plowed into Monroe County’s Trailhead Pizza in September forcing the restaurant to close is hoping to reopen in mid-January. General Manager Jessica Fitch says they are still finishing the last few construction details.
“Some of our favorite pizzas, salads, wings, things like that," she says. "Also have a full bar, craft beer on draft and then we’ll be open the following week after that Thursday through Sunday.”
Fitch says that this is the third time since opening Trailhead Pizza that someone has run off the road onto their property, the second resulted in a fatality. Luckily, no one was injured during the last incident, but it did result in a $100,000 in damages.
Fitch says the corner the restaurant sits on is dangerous because of the sharp curve and the steep angle of the road in front of the building.
“Straight away down 446 into a sharp and elevated curve that people don’t anticipate and it causes a lot of people to drift and lose control," Fitch says.
She says she hopes county officials will install a street light, rumble strips, or some sort of signage to help alert drivers of the curve ahead.
