IU Health is launching a new service on its Virtual Visit app for people to get a free screening for the coronavirus.
First-time users download the app -- search for "Virtual Visit" -- and create a login. They’re then asked questions about why they are seeking treatment and then select a nurse to video chat with about their symptoms.
Dan Handel is the Chief Medical Officer for the Southern Central Region of IU Health.
He says right now, if a user says they have not traveled outside the U.S. and haven’t come into contact with someone who has tested positive, they’re screened as negative for the virus.
“It think the app provides some evidence-based reassurance that they’re most likely okay,” he says.
He says the screening service is restricted to Indiana residents.
Handel says based on user symptoms, the app will advise on whether to seek further treatment.
"It walks you through several questions," Handel says. "Based on the answers you provide it will determine whether you do at-home conservative therapy or seek further testing."
The app results change to reflect the CDC’s latest recommendations.
