Indiana University police busted multiple off-campus parties this weekend because students were not following proper social distancing guidelines.
Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger says IUPD shut down three separate parties Saturday: one at a fraternity house off North Jordan Avenue and two on the west side of campus – one around the 600 block of East Ninth Street and one around the 600 block of North Dunn Street.

Bunger says seven or eight people attended the party on Dunn, 10 to 15 went to the one on Ninth and about 20 people were at the one on North Jordan. He says there were no parties this weekend of more than 100 people.
“The houses were very cooperative,” Bunger says. “They said they totally understood and anybody that didn't live at that residence was asked to leave. And they did. There were no issues.”
IUPD did not issue any citations but did send three conduct reports to IU’s dean of students for the three students who hosted the parties.
“Right now, we're just trying to get the message out to do what the governor has asked everyone to do,” Bunger says. “And if you don't have to be out, don't be out. So, right now, it's more educational. We're certainly not out to look to write tickets for it, or anything like that. It's just education, ask people to do what they're asked to do.”
Bunger says like the Bloomington Police Department, IUPD is not actively enforcing Gov. Holcomb’s “stay-at-home” order.
