Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has tested negative for the new coronavirus, according to a city news release.

The release says Hamilton began experiencing flu-like symptoms on Saturday and was tested on Sunday. Hamilton received the negative result today.

Hamilton's wife, Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen, tested positive for the virus April 9 and was hospitalized with COVID-19 complications April 11.

In a public Facebook post Monday, Johnsen wrote that she is still in the hospital but is "feeling better and (hopefully) out of grave danger (fingers crossed)."

Johnsen's mother died of complications related to COVID-19 last week, and her brother had been hospitalized in Kokomo due to the virus. She urged people to "take every precaution to avoid infection."
