Essential Businesses Do Include Indiana Liquor Stores And Smoke Shops

Liquor stores and smoke shops are among the businesses Gov. Eric Holcomb decided to keep open in his "stay at home" executive order March 23.

The governor has gone even further than that to make sure Hoosiers have access to an alcoholic drink in these hard times. He's allowed bars and restaurants to sell carryout alcohol.

That means you can take home a 6-pack of beer with your takeout pizza. He's allowed grocery stores to deliver alcohol to those who order their goods ahead at the supermarket. The store clerk will bring that beer — but only at room temperature — right to your car, along with the rest of your groceries, even on a Sunday.

Indiana isn't alone in allowing or expanding alcohol sales during these troubled times. Many states under "stay at home" orders, including bordering Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Michigan, consider alcohol stores to be essential and have included similar expansions to Holcomb.
