The Indiana State Department of Health announced Sunday that it would host free drive-thru testing for COVID-19 in four counties this week.
The testing will be conducted Monday to Wednesday in Allen, Clark, Decatur and Lake counties, the health department said in a statement.
Prior testing in Decatur County – which includes Greensburg – has suggested high rates of infection. Nearly 65 percent of reported tests in Decatur County have returned positive, according to health department numbers released last week.
The newly announced drive-thru tests are open to limited categories of people: symptomatic healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers; symptomatic individuals who live with one of these workers; and people who have symptoms of COVID-19 and underlying medical conditions that put them at higher risk, such as obesity, high blood pressure or heart disease.
Only one person per vehicle can receive a test, the health department said. They must be Indiana residents and present state-issued identification at the time of testing. The drive-thru clinics will run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day until supplies run out.
The locations for testing this Monday to Wednesday are:
• St. Timothy Church
1600 W 25th Ave, Gary, IN 46404
• Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne – Coliseum Campus
3800 N. Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46805
• Decatur County Fairgrounds
545 S. Co. Rd. 200 W, Greensburg, IN 47240
• Ivy Tech Community College Sellersburg
8204 Hwy 311, Sellersburg, IN 47172
Also Sunday, the health department reported that 114 people in Monroe County had tested positive for COVID-19. There have been four deaths.
The health department has not announced drive-thru testing sites for Monroe County.
