COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to increase with 1,138 Hoosiers hospitalized due to the virus.

More than 500 new cases of the COVID-19 virus have been confirmed in Indiana.

The 523 additional cases reported Thursday bring the state’s total to 43,655, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

Nine more deaths from complications due to the virus also have been confirmed.

Officials said 2,394 state residents have died due to the virus. Another 192 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record.

More than 444,000 COVID-19 virus tests have been reported to the state.

Monroe County's total COVID-19 case number rose by five to 219, and the county death toll rose by two to 28. Data provided shows 6,537 Monroe County residents have been tested.

And the City of Bloomington announced yesterday it has identified a third case of COVID-19 among its employees, the first in nearly 12 weeks.

ISDH data also shows that while the rate of infection in long-term care facilities has been decreasing, the total number of cases in those facilities has tripled since April.
