New Ivy Tech Partnership Prepares Students For Workforce

Ivy Tech Community College is partnering with Cook Medical and California-based company Zumasys to train students in skills for careers in manufacturing management.

Zumasys is the parent company of jBASE, a data management system used to manage different aspects of business operations such as inventory management. Ivy Tech collaborated with Cook Medical and Zumasys to integrate jBASE into its Software Development certificate program.

Zumasys helped Ivy Tech develop the curriculum with the aim of preparing students to pursue careers in manufacturing management at companies like Cook Medical.

"The partnership with Cook, Zumasys and Ivy Tech is really to teach students career-ready skills so that the day after graduation, they're prepared to start a job and put those skills to use," says Marsha Lovejoy, the global manager of external corporate communication at Cook. "Using jBASE, these students actually do some creative problem-solving that can be used in the workforce the day after graduation."

Some students who participate in the curriculum will be offered an internship at Cook Medical, with an opportunity to earn a full-time position following the completion of the internship.
