Nashville town leaders are looking into creating a Human Relations Commission in wake of the social justice movement.
Municipal Consultant Dax Norton says he presented town council with the idea last week.
“You’re adding everything in there, from race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, everything goes into human relations.”
He says state statute allows communities to have a Human Relations Commission for dealing with discrimination complaints.

“This really creates a proactive, positive, forward thinking group that can put on events and educational opportunities. And I think it's just a good way of teaching tolerance and becoming an all inclusive community.”
He says the next step is to form a committee of local leaders, including the youth, that will develop an ordinance that reflects the needs of Nashville residents.
