Paoli School Board Suspends, Considers Firing Superintendent

The Paoli Community School Board is considering whether to fire the district's superintendent.

The board already voted to suspend Superintendent Casey Brewster in a meeting last week. Attorney Patrick Shoulders is advising the school board; he says its decision is the result of financial issues and low test scores in the district.

"The notice that was provided to Superintendent Brewster relied upon incompetence in the area of academic progress and financial management, and also alleged that there was other good cause for the termination of the contract," Shoulders says.

The board will decide at its July 10 meeting whether to terminate Brewster's superintendent and teacher's contract. Shoulders says he believes the board has the right to do so under Indiana law.

"A number of the members of this school board believe in discharging their duty that a change of direction is necessary in the day-to-day management of the school," he says.

Brewster could request a hearing on the matter but has yet to do so.

The board will host a special meeting next week to consider hiring an interim superintendent.
