Symptoms Come Early This Year For Allergy Sufferers

A mild winter and early spring has allergies striking sooner than normal.

Tracy Murphy, Practice Manager of Allergy and Asthma of Southern Indiana, says trees are to blame.

"Those who are allergic to trees, they're noticing their symptoms sooner than a typical year," she says. "We've seen it starting in the end of February, even to mid-February."

Murphy says people usually start exhibiting allergy symptoms around mid-to-late March. The symptoms are magnified with more allergen exposure, which happens when the windows are opened.

"When it gets warmer, people tend to open their windows sooner, thinking that they're airing the house," she says. "Well then you're letting the pollen into the home."

Allergic reactions for trees typically include stuffy nose, watery eyes and sore throats.
