Historic Paoli Bridge Could Be Restored

An Orange County Commissioner says the Paoli bridge that collapsed under the weight of a semi truckon Christmas Day could be restored.

Donald Crockett says commissioners met with engineers to discuss the future of the historic structure Wednesday. The bridge was built in 1880 and has been restored several times since then.

"They said it can be restored," Crockett says. "But they didn't say how much."

Crockett says the county is waiting to hear back from the truck company's insurance before moving forward.

Police say the driver of the truck that caused the damage ignored weight limit signs when she proceeded onto the bridge. The truck's trailer started ripping because of its height and the bridge quickly collapsed.

Mary Lambright, 23, was cited for reckless operation of a tractor-trailer, disregarding a traffic control device and having an overweight semi on a posted bridge.
