IU Football Inks 21 Recruits On Signing Day

Indiana University signed 21 high school and junior college athletes to the football program Wednesday.

Of the new additions to the program, 12 play on the offensive side, including two recruits each at the quarterback, running back, tight end and wide receiver positions.

"We wanted some offensive guys," says head coach Kevin Wilson. "You don't wait until a guy graduates typically and recruit a guy and expect him to play winning football. You're thinking one or two years in advance for the development side; physically, psychologically, and emotionally."

Ohio produced the most Hoosier commitments, with six players from the state joining the program. Florida produced the second most with four, followed by Texas with three. Two recruits apiece came from Georgia and Indiana.

Wilson, who recently received a contract extension, pondered whether delaying contract extension talks until after the season hurt the recruiting class.

"That might have hurt us with some of our in-state local guys." says Wilson. "Going forward, I hope it really helps us. We're going to attack [recruits] hard with 'Man we're on some stable ground, we need some better players."

The Hoosiers open the 2016 season on Sep. 1 at Florida International University.
