IU Student Arrested After Police Discover Suspicious Package

An Indiana University student was arrested on a charge of terroristic mischief after police discovered a suspicious package on campus Thursday night.

Police say an IU employee reported seeing the package outside the Student Services office just before 8:30 p.m. Officers found a sealed box on the sidewalk with the phrase "Call the Bomb Squad" written on top.

Officers established a perimeter and called in the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team for help. Police determined the box didn't contain a bomb.

The contents of the box and a label helped police identify Daven Patton as a potential suspect. They obtained a search warrant to enter the Patton's residence and found more evidence linking him to the crime.

Police arrested Patton on a felony charge of terroristic mischief.
