Officials Lift Avian Flu Testing Area In Dubois County

Indiana animal health officials Monday lifted the ten-kilometer control area for Dubois County, weeks after an outbreak of avian flu.

During the outbreak, over 4,000 avian flu tests were conducted to ensure no infected birds left the control zone.

There have been no new positive tests for the H7N8 virus since the first weekend of the outbreak.

Lifting the control zone means farmers can now freely buy, sell and transport birds in the area. Officials are still composting over a quarter million turkeys that were killed to contain the outbreak.

Quarantines will continue for ten commercial farms until the composting is complete and the farms are certified to be free of the avian flu virus.
