The Indiana Department of Transportation says it will install a traffic signal at a busy intersection along a detour on I-65.
The Associated Press reports INDOT says the light is expected to be installed today at the intersection of U-S 52 and Indiana 47. INDOT will also install warning signs and extra rumble strips as an additional precaution.
Boone County has been asking for a traffic light at State Road 47 since the I-65 bridge closure two weeks ago.
Sheriff Mike Nielsen vented his frustration publicly this week after the ninth crash at the intersection killed a Lebanon woman.
"I am pleased with the decision from INDOT officials to install a light at the intersection. Our goal has always been protecting our school children, the citizens and the motorists traveling through Boone County," Nielsen said in a statement after the announcement of the traffic light.
The agency says it will monitor traffic flow to see if further steps are needed.
