Families in southern Indiana can now try their hand (or foot) at a brand new sport.
The new Footgolf course at the French Lick Resort and Casino is one of only a handful in the state.
The sport is a variation on classic golf, but instead of using a club, players try to kick a soccer ball into a 21-inch hole using as few shots as possible.
The resort added Footgolf to its nine-hole Valley Links course about a month ago. French Lick Resort Golf Director Dave Harner said the sport is easy to learn and cheap to play.
"The tagline that we've started to use is, "No club, no lessons, no stress," he said.
FootGolf's ease is a huge part of the sport's appeal not only to players, but to course owners. Faced with traditional golf's declining popularity, resorts are looking for new, low-cost ways to get beginners in the door.
"If mom and dad are playing golf and the kids are playing FootGolf, may be the kids will look ovre and say, 'hey, that look spretty cool, we want to try it,'" Harner said.
