More than 1 in 3 healthcare workers surveyed in a Washington Post-Kaiser Family Health poll said they aren’t confident COVID vaccines have been sufficiently tested for safety and effectiveness.
The survey gathered data from 1,327 front-line healthcare workers from February 11 to March 7. More than 50 percent of respondents reported having received their first dose.
Dr. Dan Handel is IU Health South Central Region’s chief medical officer. He said to inspire confidence, he got his shot early-on and IU Health has run informational campaigns.
“I think it’s working because we have so few team members out because of COVID now. It’s minuscule if you look at it compared to what it was a few months ago. So clearly we’re doing something right in terms of getting people vaccinated.”
Handel said IU Health does not have a way of knowing how many of their staff have been vaccinated because everyone registers through the state.
According to data released by IU Health this week, 22,201 IU Health Team members have been quarantined for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Fewer then 100 IU Health team-members are quarantined as of this week.
