A 16-year-old suspect is being held at a youth housing center awaiting formal charges in connection to a homicide early Thursday.
Bloomington police responded just after midnight to Northcrest Apartments in the 1400 block of N. Woodburn Ave., following reports of multiple gun shots.
Captain Ryan Pedigo said in a news release that another call led officers to a vehicle crash in front of La Bonita Restaurant & Market just north of the reported gunfire.
Officers there found the shooting victim in a gray Honda that had crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers rendered aid until medical responders arrived. The victim later died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields identified the shooting victim as 18-year-old Bloomington resident Keisha Huntington.
Pedigo said several individuals were interviewed in the Northcrest parking lot where the victim is believed to have been shot after fleeing an attempted robbery.
Investigators were able to identify the 16-year-old suspect this morning at an apartment in the 900 block of North Rogers Street.
The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village in Vincennes.
