Bloomington City pools are scheduled to reopen May 31, but officials say COVID-19 protocols are still unknown.
John Turnbull is sports services director for the city of Bloomington parks and recreation department and said specifics of opening the Mills and Bryan Park Pools are like moving goalposts.
“I mean the dates that we open are set, the dates we close are set,” Turnbull said. “It’s just a question of the particulars and the specifics.”
Turnbull said he anticipates smaller crowds even if Monroe County capacity limits are no longer in effect.
“We found in a lot of other activities that people in Bloomington are still resistant to going places and being in crowds,” Turnbull said. “The capacity limit may not be a big factor because, we’re not anticipating large crowds.”
Turnbull said the parks and recreation department has started hiring employees for the summer. The city employs about 35 lifeguards between the two pools.
