Brown County Schools Superintendent Leaving At End Of School Year

After five years as Brown County schools’ superintendent, Laura Hammack will be leaving the district in June after the school year ends.

She will take a new position as Beech Grove City Schools’ superintendent. The board of trustees approved her hire Tuesday night.

Hammack said she is proud of the work she’s done reworking the Brown County district’s healthcare plans and handling other financial challenges.

“We have added value to our employees as far as their health insurance experience is concerned, and three years of no premium increase, which in this market is pretty extraordinary," she said.

Under Hammack, BCS also reduced its number of schools from six to five this year, doing away with Brown County Intermediate School for fifth and sixth graders.

“That process has allowed for us to really get ourselves on track for a very rock-solid future- what we’re calling our 10-year vision for Brown County Schools," she said.

Hammack said the next few months will be critical in this process and ensuring a smooth transition to their new model.

The Brown County school board has started the search for a new superintendent.
