Bloomington’s Fourth of July parade is back on, but it’ll be a little different this year. Mayor John Hamilton says the new format follows COVID protocol.

“It's going to be a reverse parade though," he said. "Where the where the contestant the parade entries are fixed. And parade attendees drive or walk by them. So it's a little different.”

The parade is scheduled for Saturday, July 3 in the Purple Lot of Indiana University’s Memorial Stadium.

According to an email from parade officials, spectators will be able to drive by the stationary parade floats from 10 a.m. until noon.

Parade floats will not be allowed to hand out any items, but the first 200 spectators will receive a bag full of entry promotional items at the gate.

The reverse parade is a collaboration between the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, Downtown Bloomington Inc., and Indiana University.
