Bloomington municipal water customers can now comment to the state’s Office of Utility Consumer Counselor on the city’s proposed water rate increase. Comments will be taken through July 16, 2021.
The City of Bloomington is requesting the rate increase to finance operating and maintenance costs, and to fund a five-year plan to replace aging water infrastructure. The two-phase rate increase would mean about a $5 a month increase in residential water bills by January 2024.
Written comments should be submitted through the consumer counselor’s website at www.in.gov/oucc.
Water customers can also submit their comments in person. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will hold a public hearing on the pending rate case at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 6 th at Bloomington’s City Hall.
The IURC will not issue a decision on the proposal until February 2022.
