Central Indiana is under an enhanced threat for severe thunderstorms later tonight, likely after 7 p.m. Primary threats include potential for damaging winds, the possibility of isolated tornadoes, and quarter-sized hail. An estimated 1.5 to 2 inches of rain is possible. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 8 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
The high today remains in the mid 90s, but the heat index, or the "feels like" temperature, has exceeded 100 degrees. If spending the afternoon outside, know the signs of heat exhaustion, including: headache, dizziness, nausea, clammy skin, excessive sweating, and tiredness or weakness.
A break from the rain will begin after Saturday with sunny skies on Sunday into Monday morning. A 60 percent chance of rain is predicted for Monday evening but will clear by Tuesday morning. Highs will remain in the upper 80s for the weekend, but these temperatures should dwindle to the 70s by Tuesday.
