Downpours And Flooding Predicted To Continue Over The Weekend

Multiple rounds of rain are expected to start as early as late Thursday.
Multiple rounds of rain are expected to start as early as late Thursday.

Robust rain and greater risks for flooding are expected once again this weekend due to a slow-moving cold front. The storm system is likely to stall over the Ohio Valley region, resulting in significantly higher rainfall totals.

Areas with notable rainfall estimates for this weekend include Terre Haute, Crawfordsville, and Lafayette - between six to eight inches, Bloomington and Vincennes - between four to six inches, and Indianapolis, Seymour, and Muncie - between three to four inches.

The downpour that fell last weekend, which caused severe flash flooding, has heavily saturated the soil. This high saturation will prevent further rain from being absorbed properly, and furthers the risk for localized flooding and runoff.

These showers and thunderstorms will peak with their heaviest rainfall from Friday into early next week. National Weather Service data indicates significant river flooding is possible throughout most of Indiana during this time period.
