IU Athletics To Allow Full Capacity Seating At Indiana Memorial Stadium For Fall

Indiana University will allow full attendance at its athletic events starting this fall. This comes after fans weren’t allowed to attend any games last year.

Kirk White is the assistant vice president for strategic partnerships at Indiana University. He says athletic events moving back to full capacity will be one piece of moving the university back to normal for the fall semester.

“We’re having a great amount of interest in the football season this year," White said. "Lots of new season ticket holders. I think there's a lot of pent-up demand, and wanting to celebrate the great success we had last year.”

White says vaccination rates, along with compliance with local health guidelines, assured the university it was safe to allow fans at athletic events again.

In Monroe County, more than 73,000 people have been fully vaccinated and more than 15% of these are 20- to 24-year-olds – making that the largest vaccinated age group in the county.

An IU press release says COVID precautions for indoor sporting events will be released at a later date.
