Pamela Whitten takes over as president of the state’s largest university today.
Whitten will spend her first day as Indiana University’s president in Bloomington in briefings on university initiatives, according to an IU news release. She will be on the Bloomington campus Friday morning, then spend the afternoon in meetings in Indianapolis.
She is IU’s 19 th president and first female to assume the role since the university’s founding in 1820. Whitten served as Kennesaw State’s president since 2018.

Whitten holds a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas, a Master of Arts in communication from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science in management from Tulane University.
The IU Board of Trustees selected her to succeed former president Michael McRobbie in April. McRobbie announced last August that he would retire June 30.
