The International Council of Acacia Fraternity and IU Vice Provost for Student Affairs mutually agreed to suspend its Indiana University chapter effective July 1. The fraternity was placed on cease-and-desist April 15.
IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said the university investigated several complaints regarding social events and hazing allegations against the fraternity during the 2020-2021 academic year.
“The chapter will be eligible to return to campus no sooner than August of 2024 upon meeting the Office of Sorority and Fraternity’s Life’s extension requirements,” Carney said in a statement.
The International Council of Acacia Fraternity suspended the charter of the Indiana Chapter, pending investigation and revocation.
“IU is looking forward to working with the Acacia fraternity to help create a strong, safe and healthy organization upon their return,” Carney said.
