State Reports 612 New COVID-19 Cases – Highest Daily Case Count Since May

Indiana health officials reported 612 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the highest daily case count since May 26.  

The Indiana Department of Health also confirmed six new deaths. The latest numbers showed 13,512 total confirmed deaths and more than 759,000 positive cases since the pandemic began.  

There have been 273 confirmed cases of the Delta variant reported in Indiana. 

The seven-day positivity rate of 4.1 percent Wednesday was up from 3.9 percent Tuesday, and 415 Hoosiers are hospitalized with the virus. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since June 22’s low of 1.9 percent. 

The state has also administered more than 5.7 million vaccine doses, and more than 2.8 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated. 

Monroe County health officials reported nine new positive cases and no additional deaths. County officials have reported 12,379 cases and 178 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate is 3.8 percent Wednesday and 18 people are hospitalized with the virus in Monroe County-area hospitals. 

More than 55.9 percent of Monroe County's eligible population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Owen County remains in the state’s yellow ranking for COVID spread, with a seven-day all-test positivity rate of 9.3 percent.
