MCCSC Expected To Release Student Masking Policy Next Week

The Monroe County School Corporation has yet to release guidelines on masks for students for the coming school year.

According to an MCCSC statement, a decision on student masking policies is expected to come after Tuesday’s night’s board meeting

This month, MCCSC said staff and faculty who are two weeks past their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine wouldn’t have to wear masks at work.

This week, the American Academy of Pediatrics released updated guidance that all students, staff, and faculty in schools wear a face covering – regardless of vaccination status. They advise in taking a “layered approach” to protect everyone in schools.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that all unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff wear masks indoors, but notes that in areas where vaccination rates are low, a universal masking policy may be necessary.

What Are Other Districts Doing?

Bartholomew County School Corporation: The district’s board approved a plan Monday night stating that in most situations, masks would be optional. The district is recommending unvaccinated students and staff wear masks. Because of a federal mandate, masks will be required on all bus trips.

Vigo County School Corporation: Board members voted this week not to require masks for primary and secondary school students.

Brown County School Corporation: Masks will be optional for students and staff, the board decided this week. Unvaccinated students and staff are encouraged to wear masks.
