State Reports 731 New COVID Cases, Monroe County's Positivity Rate Jumps To 5.6%

Indiana health officials reported 731 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday – surpassing Tuesday’s high of 713 new cases.

The Indiana Department of Health recorded seven new deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 13,536 since the pandemic began.

The state also reported more than 762,000 positive cases since the pandemic began. The state reported 557 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus Wednesday, up from Tuesday’s 510 and Monday’s 493.  

The seven-day positivity rate is 5.2 percent, up from 4.5 percent on Friday. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since a low of 1.9 percent on June 22. 

The state has administered more than 5.7 million vaccine doses, and more than 2.9 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated.

Monroe County health officials reported 13 new positive cases and no additional deaths. County officials have reported 12,466 cases and 178 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate Wednesday is 5.6 percent, a jump from 4.6 percent on Monday and Tuesday.

Nineteen people are hospitalized with the virus in Monroe County-area hospitals. 

More than 56 percent of Monroe County's eligible population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
