Dangerous Heat Predicted For This Weekend

The heat index is a measurement of how hot it really feels when relative humidity meshes with actual air temperature. Because of high expected high humidity, heat indexes are expected to peak at 103 degrees in Bloomington, Shelbyville and Seymour between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Even higher indices of 107 are expected in Terre Haute and Vincennes.

Temperatures will rise this week into the 90s and remain there through Tuesday. Lows remain in the upper 60s and low 70s.

The National Weather Service advises those outdoors to dress in lightweight and light-colored clothing, drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks, and seek air conditioned places if possible. Those with heart and lung problems, elderly, and children will be the most susceptible to the heat.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected next week, beginning as early as Sunday.
