Monroe County Seven-Day Positivity Rate 6.1 Percent – Up From 4.6 Monday

Health officials reported 20 new COVID-19 cases in Monroe County today and no additional deaths, the first time the county has recorded 20 new daily cases since May 1.

County officials have reported 12,494 cases and 178 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate today is 6.1, up from 5.9 percent yesterday, 5.6 percent Wednesday, and 4.6 percent at the start of the week.

Twenty-three people are hospitalized with the virus in Monroe County-area hospitals.

Indiana health officials reported 786 new COVID-19 cases today, down from yesterday’s 878 new COVID-19 cases, which is the most daily cases reported so far this month. The state reported more than 700 new cases on Wednesday and Tuesday.

The Indiana Department of Health recorded two new deaths Friday. The state’s COVID-19 dashboard shows total deaths since the pandemic began as 13,537.

The state also reported more than 764,000 positive cases since the pandemic began. The state listed 591 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus today, with a  seven-day positivity rate of 5.4 percent. This is up from Wednesday’s 5.2 percent, and 4.5 percent last Friday. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since a low of 1.9 percent June 22.

Vaccinations

The state announced today that it will be updating county-level vaccination data, as an error was discovered in how the county of residence was being assigned.

The state says the automated process used ZIP codes only, not full addresses, when assigning vaccination records to counties in the state’s registry.

The announcement says 3 percent of all vaccination records were assigned to the wrong county because their zip codes crossed county lines. Half of Indiana’s counties will see their rates of vaccinated residents increase, and half will decline.

The changes are expected to be implemented on the dashboard within the next few weeks.

According to the state vaccination page today, more than 56 percent of Monroe County's eligible population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The state has administered more than 5.8 million vaccine doses, and more than 2.9 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated.
