Health officials reported 29 new COVID-19 cases in Monroe County Wednesday but no additional deaths. That’s the most new cases recorded for the county since April 20. Newly reported daily cases have been on a gradual rise since June 9.
County officials have reported 12,575 cases and 178 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate today is 6.4 percent, down from 7 percent Tuesday.
Thirty-two people are hospitalized with the virus in Monroe County-area hospitals.
Monroe County is back in a “yellow advisory” on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, as it no longer falls in the threshold of fewer than 10 weekly cases per 100,000 residents. Monroe County had been in the “blue advisory” since May, indicating low community viral spread.
Indiana health officials reported more than 1,200 new COVID-19 cases statewide Wednesday, surpassing the 1,085 cases reported Tuesday. These are the first two times in seven weeks the state has recorded more than 1,000 new daily cases.
The Indiana Department of Health also recorded 12 new deaths, bringing the state’s total to 13,564 since the pandemic began. The state also reported more than 768,000 positive cases since the pandemic began.
The state listed 781 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus Wednesday. That’s up from 735 Tuesday and 685 Monday. The state also recorded a seven-day positivity rate of 6.5 percent, up slightly from Monday’s 6.2 percent. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
Vaccinations
The state announced Friday that it will be updating county-level vaccination data, as an error was discovered in how the county of residence was being assigned.
The state said the automated process used ZIP codes only, not full addresses, when assigning vaccination records to counties in the state’s registry.
That means 3 percent of all vaccination records were assigned to the wrong county. The state said half of Indiana’s counties will see their rates of vaccinated residents increase, and half will decline.
The changes are expected to be implemented on the dashboard within the next few weeks.
According to the state, more than 56 percent of Monroe County's eligible population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The state has administered more than 5.8 million vaccine doses, and more than 2.9 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated.
