Ivy Tech Bloomington To Offer Free Addiction Studies Certificate

Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus is now offering an online, tuition-free certificate in addiction studies.

The program is offered through Indiana’s Next Level Jobs and paid for by the Workforce Ready Grant. Applicants must live in Indiana, have a high school diploma or GED, and have not previously received a Next Level Jobs certificate.

Trudy Weddle, vice chancellor for enrollment services and student success, said full-time students can complete the certificate in as little as two semesters.

“With the option to take this certification completely online, there is some flexibility,” she said. “Students who may not have otherwise thought they could do full time enrollment while working, kids, school, whatever else they may be doing, this would still be an opportunity for them.”

Weddle said the certification program could eventually lead to partnerships with four-year institutions.

“Students who have that bachelor’s or master’s who may want to pursue that addiction studies certification and add that on to their existing license, they have to have 27 credit hours in addiction studies,” she said. “And conveniently enough, this certification is 27 credit hours.”

Ivy Tech Bloomington offers 22 certificates and 14 technical certificates through the Next Level Jobs program.
