State Records Third Day With More Than 1,000 New Cases, Hospitalizations Continue To Rise

 

Health officials reported 23 new positive COVID-19 cases in Monroe County today but no additional deaths. Yesterday, 29 new cases were reported, the highest number since April 20. Newly reported daily cases have been on a gradual rise since June 9.  

County officials have reported 12,598 cases and 178 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate today is 6.2 percent Thursday, down from 6.4 percent Wednesday, and 7 percent Tuesday. 

Thirty-three people are hospitalized with the virus in area hospitals. Hospitalizations hit a low of 12 patients on July 15, and has been on the rise since.

Monroe County reentered the state’s “yellow advisory” on COVID-19 dashboard, as it no longer falls below 10 weekly cases per 100,000 residents. Monroe County had been in the “blue advisory” since May, indicating low community viral spread.  

Indiana health officials reported more than 1,200 new COVID-19 cases today, and more than 1,200 yesterday.   

The Indiana Department of Health also recorded six new deaths, bringing the state’s total to 13,570 since the pandemic began. The state also reported more than 769,000 positive cases since the pandemic began. 

The state listed 795 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus today, up from 781 yesterday. The state started out with 684 hospitalized COVID-19 patients Monday. The state’s hospitalizations have been on the rise for the last month.

The state also recorded a seven-day positivity rate of 6.7 percent, up from 6.5 percent Wednesday, up from Monday’s 6.2 percent. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
