Given rising numbers of daily reported cases, hospitalizations and the Centers For Disease Control’s new recommendations, some schools are reinstating masking polices on its campuses. Here’s where Indiana’s universities stand with masking policies.
Ball State’s says vaccinated students and employees are not expected to wear masks indoors. Students and staff who are unvaccinated are required to wear masks indoors and in situations where social distancing isn’t possible. These policies are subject to revision, and Ball State representatives said they are in conversations with local health leaders about their masking policies, given the CDC’s revised stance.
Purdue University announced Monday that all vaccinated and unvaccinated students and employees will be required to wear facemasks indoors. This backtracks from its initial plan to require masks in classrooms but not in other shared indoor spaces. The university is encouraging its students to get vaccinated, and incentivized the decision by offering 10 vaccinated students the equivalent of a year’s in-state tuition via a raffle.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology announced all students and employees, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear face masks inside all campus buildings. If someone is alone in a private office, workspace, or room – they will not have to wear a mask.
Indiana University’s current policy does not require fully vaccinated students and employees to wear a mask on campus or physical distance. Unvaccinated individuals are recommended to mask. Vaccines for COVID-19 are now required, unless you fall into an exempt category. IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said Friday that IU is reviewing its policy with the county as the situation evolves.
